A great sound bar with one fatal (for me) flaw.
I was very happy with the Sonos Ray itself and for the size of TV and room it was for, it gave a very rich audio experience for the price. Ultimately I had to return it and opt for the Beam (Gen2) because I could not get the remote of my TV to control the volume. The model of the TV I bought was a TCM 55” QLED C650 (2022 model). The Sonos Ray only has an Optical connection to your TV while the beam has HDMI also which allows arc (audio return control). I was assured by staff that this incompatibility was an anomaly which they’d never encountered before but if it hadn’t been for this issue I’d still be happily using the Sonos Ray.

Don't try this at home!
I recently purchased a Ray Home Speaker. Installing it was easy and the sound is far superior to today's television speakers. However, I made the mistake of connecting the Ray to the Remote that came with the TV. After 1.5 hours on the phone with technical support to accomplish this, I had success, only to find out that the remote has to be within approximately 3-5 feet of the Ray in order to control it. It doesn't need to be that close to operate the TV so the problem seems to be with the Ray. Do yourself a favor and just use the Sonos app volume control to control the volume on a television, unless you are sitting very close to the TV.

Ok but Beam better
I have Sonos One's with the Beam and Sub in the main TV room. Bought the Ray for the bedroom. Optical is by far the biggest let down. Literally does not work or at least becomes jumpy if the Ray gets knocked and the optical connector is not no longer perfectly aligned. Sound control also hit & miss - have to make sure Ray receives the signal by watching for white light on Ray or no sound change! We can change the TV volume and not the Ray in some cases as it is optical and not HDMI connected. HDMI eARC would change the Ray from a 4 to a 5 without doubt. I would not buy Ray again as is - I would buy the Beam even if it costs more.

A good product BUT,,,
I purchased the Ray as a sound bar for our master bedroom SONY TV that only had internal speakers. It was easy to install but for one significant problem: It connects to your TV only through a fiber optic cable. Fortunately, I had a port for that, but the PROBLEM was that they put a thin transparent sleeve over each end of the cable - so thin I didn't notice it and was able to plug it in - but of course it didn't work. Took two calls to support to figure that out. And then problem #2: I was able to program my Xfinity remote to control the volume, BUT you must point the remote down toward the top of the bar for it to work. NOT GOOD.

Solid first sound bar
The Ray sounds great and the app is amazing. The bass can go very low but isn't very strong so a sub is recommended but the price Sonos is charging is a turn off. Turning the bass up in the app doesn't make the music sound distorted which is a plus. Audio sounds great and voices are clear. When my router looses a connection to the internet, I loose the ability to play the songs I have downloaded on my phone as the option of AirPlay disappears. I use wired Ethernet, which I appreciate the inclusion of, so it's unlikely to not be connected to the local network. Overall I'm satisfied with the Ray for the price I paid.

Not bad
Like all Sonos stuff it has great functionality and an entry-level (for Sonos) price point. Great to be able to play multiple sources to it and I was strangely amazed at the ease of pairing my samsung tv's remote with it for volume control (even when using other sources for playback). It's definitely better than the built in speakers of the tv (not a high bar). I had to add a lot of treble to it for my taste which was odd. I may play around with the tuning again. Nice and compact for a small room like a guest bedroom or home office. Not enormous sound but that's the trade off with price.

Always out of Sync; delay changes with apps
For whatever reason, different apps have more or less delay for the audio. I think different apps have different audio compressions, but the Ray doesn't auto adjust. So, each time I watch something on a different app, I have to recalibrate. And I'm not picky. These delays are VERY off. From what I've read, the optical cable exacerbates this. I don't know if it's enough of a jump up in audio quality from the TV's integrated speakers. If I did it over again, I'd either not buy one, or upgrade to the next one that doesn't rely on an optical audio cable. Lastly, I thought there was a night mode or dialogue mode, but I can't seem to find that.

Really well balanced soundbar for smaller TVs
This Sonos soundbar makes the perfect fit for smaller TVs (I use it with a 43'' Panasonic TV in the bedroom). While it can' t directly compete with the bigger ARC in terms of sound quality, the frequency range seems to be perfectly balanced and it is a huge improvement over the build-in speakers. The aesthetic design really blends in pretty well with my interior. I have mounted it on the wall and I prefer this over a bigger soundbar as it does not disturb the athmophere of the room at all. An additional plus point is, that it is a full featured addition to the Sonos multi room system and has built-in functionality for streaming services like Spotify.
