What is Wi-Fi 7?

In today’s modern landscape, we rely on our mobile phones, laptops, and smart home devices to stay connected and constantly available. But with more internet-connected devices competing for your router’s bandwidth, your existing Wi-Fi systems can slow down.

This can be frustrating especially if you are on an important Teams call and experience video lags, or if you encounter slow downloads, and buffering while streaming.

Building on the foundation of Wi-Fi 6 and 6E, Wi-Fi 7 emerges from the escalating demands and limitations of the existing internet by providing a huge improvement in data transfer with blazing-fast speeds, reliable connectivity and almost-zero lag when using Wi-Fi 7 compatible devices.

However, its true strength lies in its ability to run smoothly even when the mesh system handles data and requests from multiple devices. This means everyone and all connected devices get a frustration-free and seamless connection.

Benefits of Wi-Fi 7

Wi-Fi 7 is here to revolutionise your home network by taking advantage of the 6 GHz band and unlocking the full potential of your online experience.

How does Wi-Fi 7 work?

Peek into the innovative features and technologies Wi-Fi 7 uses that make it worth the upgrade.

Double the channels and higher QAM

Wi-Fi 7 introduces the use of 320 MHz wide channels in the 6 GHz band and 4K-QAM to tackle data transfer issues we previously faced.

The available wider spectrum and 4096 -QAM will reduce congestion and boost the data rates, significantly increasing throughput and capacity compared to Wi-Fi 6E.

MU-MIMO boosts network efficiency

Wi-Fi 7 supports 16 spatial streams, doubling the number of data paths up from 8 streams in Wi-Fi 6. This improves the overall network performance and efficiency by allowing your router to communicate with multiple devices simultaneously and reducing wait times. This great for public spaces, large households and business settings.

Transform your network with Multi-Link Operation

One of the standout features of Wi-Fi 7 is Multi-Link Operation (MLO). Before Wi-Fi 7, transmission was limited to one band (5 GHz or 2.4 GHz) to send and receive data.

With MLO, Wi-Fi 7 devices can now establish connections to all the Wi-Fi frequency bands simultaneously and switch between them without breaking off, to transmit data more effectively. This reduces latency, increases the speed and capacity of data transfer, and provides a more reliable connection.

Better handling of interferences

With multi-RU and puncturing, Wi-Fi 7 can better cope with overlapping signals and interference from neighbouring networks by removing the affected channel and allowing the data to flow smoothly through the remaining usable portions. This leads to a more stable and reliable connection, even in crowded environments like apartment buildings or office complexes.

Is Wi-Fi 7 a good fit for you?

Here's how you know

Do you have a growing number of devices at home?

Smartphones, laptops, tablets, TVs, smart speakers – the list keeps growing!

If your home boasts a collection of Wi-Fi hungry devices and you are experience lag and slowdowns, then Wi-Fi 7’s increased capacity can handle the surge in the number of devices.

Do you crave a seamless online experience?

Wi-Fi’s superior speed and throughput lets you stream 4K, 8K and higher-resolution TV shows and movies, download massive files in seconds and enjoy uninterrupted lag-free gameplay.

The improvements even enhance the quality and responsiveness of virtual worlds like AR, VR & XR applications.

Worried about security risks from your many smart home devices?

Security has always been a concern with wireless connectivity.

Wi-Fi 7 leverages WPA3 and enhanced encryption methods to safeguard your network and personal data from potential threats, giving you peace of mind knowing your devices are protected.

Tired of dead zones in your home where the signal weakens?

Wi-Fi 7 mesh systems extend coverage by offering a combination of wider channels, multi-link connections, and smarter signal focusing to significantly reduce, if not eliminate, dead zones and provide more extensive and reliable Wi-Fi coverage throughout your home, including in previously problematic areas.

Are you looking to future-proof your home network?

Technology is always advancing, and older devices and systems were designed for previous technological advancements.

However, Wi-Fi 7 is designed to meet the growing demands of future smart homes and online experiences. By upgrading gradually now, you'll be ready for the future of connectivity.

If you answered yes to these questions, Wi-Fi 7 might be the perfect upgrade for your home.

They are worth the upgrade if you foresee purchasing the latest smart home and personal devices soon.

The best part is that Wi-Fi 7 routers, access points, and mesh networks are backward compatible, meaning your older devices that support previous Wi-Fi standards (such as Wi-Fi 6, 5 or 4) should still work with it.

This ensures a smooth transition, albeit with a few limitations, as your older devices cannot take full advantage of the advancements. To unlock the treasures of Wi-Fi 7, you will need to upgrade devices to newer models that support the new standard.

But fret not, future devices from your favourite brands will be Wi-Fi 7 certified or compatible.
