Rated 5 out of 5 by from You won’t believe this!!! I have the JBL Charge 4. Amazing true story! I accidentally dropped it in the burning barrel while burning trash. Unbelievably it still works. Check out the photos. Only thing is I can’t go real loud or it starts distorting. It never used to. And doesn’t hold a charge as long. I love my speaker it goes everywhere I go. I love loud music!! But unfortunately it stays home now. I am saving for the JBL CHARGE 5. But something keeps coming up and It’s hard to get enough saved Hopefully by summer. Amazing speaker. It’s a survivor like me!! Awesome speaker!! So it’s waterproof and pretty dang heat proof. Can’t wait to get my next new speaker. Kim

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great on the go! We are a huge JBL product supporter in our family. The Charge 4 seems the same as the charge 3 only a bit larger and it has a mono single speaker instead of a stereo dual speaker like the Charge 3. I probably prefer the smaller profile and better sound from the 3 but the 4 is still a perfect option for the beach and camping, etc. One improvement JBL can make overall is more power. The sound with any JBL product is always clean but it also feels like you should be getting a bit more power from all their products. Charge, Charge 3, Charge 4, Extreme2, Free Ear Buds... on another note JBL car audio subs are fantastic. quality built with plenty of power and reasonably priced.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Something I think the developers should work on Hello fellow JBL charge 4 owners (and hopefully developers). I just thought I would mention that this product is not at all able to play low bass and low volume. One might experience this while time to play the song "Time" by Hans Zimmer. I know the begin of the song is very soft and the volume low, however I cannot hear anything except static for the first 45 seconds of the song. Might I remind you that this is at minimum volume. Like another push of the minus volume button and it is mute. This product handles loud music and bass very well at higher volumes, but it cannot even play lower volume music. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent ear bud at a very attractive price point [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This a great new addition to the JBL lineup of ear buds. The noise isolating design works very well at eliminating background noise. I am using the medium sized eartips, they fit snug and comfortable. The battery life, 12 hours per full charge, is exceptional. I have not tested that completely, however they do last me a full 8 hour work day with no problem. I have used these for music mostly, but they also work great for team meetings with remote workers. Sound is crips and clear with plenty of bass. The only downfall is they do seem a little hard to get out of the charging case, you need to grab them just right.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from There are 2 different models! Buyer beware. Purchased 2 of these recently from an authorized dealer and received 2 different models of the speaker in my shipment. CHARGE4S and CHARGE4J. The model numbers on the box itself are the same, but the actual speakers inside are different! Setting them side by side there are notable physical differences such as a much thinner/see thru mesh on the J model. Also the charging indicator lights are dimmer and harder to see on the J. No telling what's different inside. According the FCC filings the S has a 7500mah battery while the J has a 7800mah battery. Disappointing that I didn't receive 2 of the same speaker. If you are going to change the hardware in the box you should release a new version and make it clear to customers which model they are getting!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good overall sound for such a small package Pleasantly surprised. I like big sound. It does not provide the big bass outdoors, but it fills the room adequately inside. I have the Boombox that fills the need for the outdoors. The sound quality of the Charge 4 is really clear with good mids and highs. It is actually a little too loud at night on the lowest volume setting when trying to go to sleep — NOT a problem at all because I just use the iPhone speakers. I have 2 old Xtremes. I was considering getting an Xtreme 2 to complete my connect + pairings, but I will get another Charge 4 instead (though I don’t really need it). Now the old Xtremes serve me little purpose - that absolute SUCK JBL.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Still horrible experience linking 2 speakers Using the JBL Connect app to enable the “party” & “stereo” feature using two Charge 4 speakers is still a choppy, inconsistent experience at best. The app rarely properly detects both speakers so it almost never successfully allows the “stereo” feature to even appear on the app. I’ve tried endles workflow combinations of connecting to speakers, hitting the link buttons on the speakers, updating the app, disabling bluetooth on nearby devices. IF the stereo feature manages to connect, it actually causes the music playback to sound static-like, choppy, and randomly accelerate and slow the music. Just an awful experience and no improvement in paired speaker experience versus the Charge 3.

If you already own the jbl charge 3 I wouldn’t say it is worth upgrading because there mainly just small minor tweaks to the charge 4 coming from the charge 3, the charge 4 does have a little bit more clarity as well as a little bit more bass, it’s very similar in volume to the charge 3 but slightly more refined, it now has usb type c charging which is nice future wise because it could support even faster charging, one gripe I have is the flap covering the port is looser than on the charge 3 and there is only one rubber ring that seals it off compared to the charge 3 having 2 of them, so far it hasn’t been a problem though and even if water does get through jbl seals off the other sides of the ports so no damage should occur just don’t try and use the ports if they are wet until they dry, I do absolutely love this speaker and glad I got it, I just wish they would have added a tweeter since it is a mono driver handling everything, if there was a tweeter jbl would have been able to not only make it even louder but allow more excursion without the sound getting fluttery, but I guess they will do that in the charge 5? Thank you jbl for making an amazing product!!! Deffinetly recommend!!!

Can I use these with my 2022 Macbook Air (Sonoma)? In the user guide it only shows pairing with Android, iPhone, and Windows PCs, so isn't it possible to connect to Macbook?

Won’t charge. I have had this for about a year and it won’t charge and as soon as you turn it on and connect it disconnects and turns off.

Can you use an android phone charging cord to charge the speaker?

Thanks for your question. Our JBL Charge 4 can be charged using a Type C USB cable, which is the same type of charging cable used by many modern smartphones. If your phone has a Type C port, you can conveniently use the same cable to charge both your phone and the JBL speaker.

I use my JBL Charge 4 to provide music from my phone at church..connected by Bluetooth. Is it possible to also connect a Bluetooth microphone at the same time to speak when music is not playing? Or can only one Bluetooth device be connected at a time?

Our JBL Charge 4 doesn't support wireless microphones. For microphones to work, the signal needs to be boosted before it passes to the speaker output. The speaker doesn't have this preamp boosting built-in. It is intended for use with mobile phones, tablets, and laptops for audio streaming. We recommend checking out our JBL PartyBox Series, which has this built-in but for wired microphones.
