We just replaced our first Soft Top kettle with this new updated model. And so far it seems to be built just as well and we're expecting to get many years of great service from this one too. The one change in this new design though that I'm not so happy about is the change in the water level indicator. The old one had a level indicator behind the handle, that would be illuminated when you turned on the power switch. For me, the behind the handle location as well as the light made it very easy to see how much water was in the kettle. With this new kettle, the water level reading is done by the clearish dual water windows on either side, which rely on positioning the kettle where there's light behind it, and since we put ours toward the back of our counter, under some cabinets, there's not a lot of light to be able to read the water level.

Stainless steel that rusts
It says to be made of stainless steel but this is my second Breville Soft Top Kettle and after having it for only a few months, it’s already rusting. I had to replace the previous one because of this issue and now this one is rusting in the same exact spot. I will not be buying another one considering a significant price tag. Loved it otherwise, shame it’s not up to the usual Breville quality.

Just Right!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a great gadget for kitchen use, I would say This is not less than a blessing for making the water hot in seconds without using other pots to make it boil. It is very efficient. We don't bother putting it away in a cupboard or drawer because it compliments our counter. This kettle has a modern design and quiet open of the lid. The best thing is that I can bring it with me while traveling or going in an RV or airbnb. It heats the water very quickly and it’s easy to use! The look of the kettle is simple and stylish. Just go and grab it!

Good, and not so good.
This is our second Breville kettle. The first one was a Smart Kettle, which worked fine, except the cheap plastic centre on the lid cracked and eventually a triangular piece fell out into the kettle. It was well out of warranty when this happened, so we replaced it with this one as we felt we didn't really use the different temperature settings very often. The same cracks have appeared in the new kettle after less than nine months' use. Breville, please stop using these plastic lids - all your kettles seem to have them now and they are rubbish.

Level indicator not illuminated, difficult to read.
We had an older Breville Icon kettle which had a water level indicator that illuminated when the kettle was turned on. This was super easy to read.
This kettle, the "Soft Top Pure" does not illuminate the water level. IF your kettle resides somewhere with LOTS of light from above or behind, you might be able to see the water level. If it resides on the back of a counter, you need a flashlight to see the water level.
Frustration built for several weeks, and then we returned it.

My old Breville soft top clear was only replaced by a newer model because the handle kept breaking and it had become very dangerous. Otherwise it was a great kettle and what’s more the brushed stainless steel did not show fingerprints. However my new Breville Pure with a different handle though it works extremely well and is much quieter than the older model shows every finger print. Why can’t you produce a brushed stainless steel that doesn’t. Who has time to polish their kettle all the time. All my other kitchen appliances are brushed stainless steel and don’t require continual polishing. What’s happening Breville?

Great style and function
Gorgeous design with matt stainless finish to match other kitchen appliances.
The upright cylindrical shape is a bit different and appeals to me much more than the more commonly seen tapered or dome shapes.
Front facing volume window is clear and attractive.
Relatively quiet and fast with a nice little "ding" once boiled.
Comfortable handle, large lid for filling, soft close lid.
Not too heavy.
My third of the same design. With age I have sometimes had leaking from the bottom seam of the kettle but Breville has had fantastic customer service - either sending me a replacement or offering me a new one at a cheaper price if it is well out of its warranty.

Good product with one problem
I bought this product 3 weeks ago and I was happy with it especially with the bell function - when water starts to boil the bell rings and it turns off - but unfortunately this function works randomly and doesn't inform me anymore, I don't know why (because I work in another room it's somehow important to me)... So if this function is important for you I don't suggest this product...
