KitchenAid 3.5 Cup Mini Food Chopper - Empire Red (5KFC3516AER) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 493.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice feel It is a nice product, a solid feel and a very nice solid sound when being use, not empty and clackity sound. I have many kitchenaid products, all their blenders can be improved by the way the lids closes, eg, they general can be close from one side only and must be in a certainposition, and must turn one way, it would be nice if it can close from any position and turn.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent, compact and powerful I have just bought this food processor and initially thought it may be too small for my needs. However after processing a black bean chocolate cake in the processor, I am impressed. It also grinds the carrots and onions with ease. It took me a minute to work out how to unlock the lid, but am now expert at it. Very impressed with the compactness and the power. My pasta sauce, hamburgers, fritters, meatballs, quiches, etc are now a breeze to whiz up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replacement for mini chopper delivers [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this mini food chopper to replace a different brand one that died. Was looking for more power and a more robust machine. Have been very happy with my Kitchenaid stand mixer so chose this brand to replace my deceased chopper. I find a mini chopper essential because I make a lot of small batch pastes and marinades. This one works brilliantly for curry pastes, Asian marinades, flavor bases for soups and stews and pestos. Does a brilliant job on salsa verde and the facility to dribble in oil to emulsify the mix works well. Easier to clean...an added advantage! It is certainly going to get a lot of use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What you've been waiting for! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] A year or two ago I bought a KitchenAid 9 cup food processor. It's been a god send but when I needed to work with smaller amounts to make a dip or something like a chimichurri, it struggled simply because of the size. So I waited and waited, and then finally bit the bullet and the mini food chopper. ALLELUIA! It works a treat, is super easy to assemble and use, with instructions that helped when I wasn't quite sure. The actual chopping mechanism (top of the handle) makes it very easy to get the exact consistency you need. If you're a food enthusiast and enjoy experimenting, you won't regret it. I certainly haven't.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for grinding coffee beans [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Purchased this to grind coffee beans. Also purchased a Breville with all the gadgets which works well but very loud. The Kitchen Aid grinds the coffee a little more finer. Had trouble to start with as everything was tight and I thought if I forced I would break. The lid only needs just a little bit offset the turn to lock then pulse. Same with locking the jug. After a couple of times easy as. Very good blade cutting for making coleslaw cabbage and carrot - just need one quick pulse. Purchased one for my son also. Would recommend. I have a powerful big blender but this is better for every day use on the bench.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet & super efficient My husband bought this for me after my very ancient but trusty small food processor's motor died. I'd got a new large replacement food processor but it just wasn't the same - too big for pestos and smaller quantities of ingredients. This KitchenAid chopper does the job of the old faithful, only better and quieter - a really great little machine! It's small enough to store easily too.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing This little unit replaced my beloved Sunbeam Oskar 400 which has stood me in good stead for more than 20 years. It's still working but I imagined that the purchase of a KitchenAid would be the bees knees, having such a good reputation. Sadly, no. This Mini food processor is not a patch on the Sunbeam Oskar. Unfortunately, they don't make them any more. The bowl of the Kitchen Aid Mini is difficult to get off and on. The pressure thing onthe lid to commence chopping and/or blending is erratic. I press with my thumb. Nothing happens. Press a little harder and the whole unit just about takes off! I don't like it but I guess I'm stuck with it. It's such a disappointment after my high hopes it would be a valid replacement for the Sunbeam.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small but packs a punch! Just got it 3 days ago and very happy with my purchase. Small enough to leave out on the bench, easy to clean, chops in seconds. Great for onion, garlic, carrots, celery and sauces. Very happy. Quality product. Anne

Is the lid of the mini food chopper detachable? Can I take it apart to wash it? Thank you.

Can this chop ginger chilies and garlic?

Asked by: Roshs
Thank you for your enquiry. You can chop ginger, chilli and garlic in the 3.5 cup chopper. Chop your ingredients into 2cm pieces before putting into your chopper. When starting to process your ingredients use the pulse function to break your ingredients into smaller pieces before fully processing.

Can this chop kale without mashing it up to a pu[plp like?

Asked by: Nuwan
If you mean raw kale, then yes, it will chop it reasonably coarsely - just keep an eye on it, and don’t over-process it.  I’d try pulsing it a few times, and font over-fell the bowl.  I’ve done this with basil leaves (for pesto), and other leafy herbs.

Can I mix dough? Scones etc?

Asked by: Jojo
Thanks for the question Jojo! While this unit is ideal for everyday use, with the blade suitable to chop, mix or puree fresh fruits and vegetables, it does not specifically state it can or can't be used for dough, and we would not recommend using it in this instance, to prevent motor issues and voiding warranty. Trust this helps! ^CO

Can it make meat (like pork) mince?

Asked by: Davy
I use my bigger food processor for that as it has a larger capacity and heavier motor so couldn’t say if the smaller one could be used for making mince

Just wondering can you make pastry in the mini food chopper?

Asked by: Lou79
Hello!  Yes, I often make pastry in my brilliant little mini processor!  Try this: 1 1/4 cups of flour 1 tsp baking powder 75-100g butter 1 tsp vinegar About 1/2 cup milk Chop the butter into the dry ingredients until it looks like very coarse breadcrumbs (a few pea-sized pieces of butter are fine), then mix the milk and vinegar and dribble it in through the handy hole in the lid until it clumps together and forms a ball.  This makes enough pastry to roll out into two 30cm circles for a savoury pie (I use it for bacon and egg pie).  Bake the pie at approx 200 deg C.

Are you able to make smoothies with this - can it crush ice?

Asked by: Em23
Thank you for your question, The KFC3516 is not designed to process smoothies and/or crush Ice. If this function is something you are looking to process I would recommend that you look at our Blender Range.
